Afternoon Room & Contents Fire - January 26, 2013 - Members of Platoon No. 2 Responded for a House at 5614 North Capitol Street NW.  While enroute units received updates stating that there were "multiple calls".  Engine Co. 14 arrived and found a 11/2 story Single Family Home with smoke showing.  Engine Co. 22 deployed the 400' and backed up Engine 14.  Truck 11 positioned on Side 'A' as the first due truck, laddered and proceeded to the roof to check for vertical fire spread and vent.  The fire was quickly extinguished and the assignment was held with "1 & 1."
Second Alarm Fire in Brightwood - January 23, 2013 - Members of Platoon No. 3, responded to the first multiple alarm fire in Washington, D.C. of 2013.  Just before 2100 hours the Office of Unified Communications alerted "Units with the 4th Battalion" to 5900 9th St NW.   Engine Co. 22 was greeted with a large amount of smoke on Missouri Ave approaching the scene.  Upon arrival units found a working fire in the crawlspace beneath an apartment building.  Truck 11 had to perform extensive work to open up and access the fire.  Due to subfreezing temperatures and complex conditions being able to access the fire a 2nd Alarm was sounded as the fire was discovered to rapidly extending into the cockloft.  Crews working aggressively brought the fire under control with in an hour.  Platoon No. 3 wishes to thank the members of the Friendship Fire Association for responding to the scene with the Canteen and Rehab units providing much needed support on a cold winter night.

Oneida Pl NWFirst Due Basement Fire - January 18, 2013 - Just before midnight, units responded with the 4th Battalion Fire Chief for the House fire with report of 3 people trapped.  Engine Co. 22 and Truck 11 arrived to find smoke showing from side A.  Engine 22 quickly deployed an attack line to the first floor.  Members of Truck 11 laddered the residence, assisted with primary search, and checked the roof.  Fire was determined to be in the basement and was quickly extinguished. 
Congratulations to Another DCFD Legend - January 10, 2013 -  After over  27 years of dedication and excellence to the DCFD Lieutenant Donahue worked his last tour of duty with Engine Co. 22.  Members of Platoon No. 2 celebrated their last tour of duty with Lieutenant Donahue with a traditional in house retirement dinner.  The members of Engine Co. 22 & Truck Co. 11, No. 2, wish to thank all those who stopped by to wish Lt. Donahue farewell, including DFC Vlassopolous, BFC Welsh, & BFC Groetz.

Lieutenant Donahue was appointed to Truck Co. 14 on November 25, 1985.  After Probation Lt. Donahue voluntarily transferred as one of the original members who opened Engine Co. 33.  In 1987 Lt. Donahue transferred to Engine Co. 15.  He then served as Engine Co. 15's Wagon Driver from January 14, 1990 to June 1, 1991.  Promoted to Sergeant on June 2, 1991 and later promoted to Lieutenant on March 19, 1995.  Lieutenant Donahue last served as Lieutenant of Engine Co. 22, Platoon No. 2 from January 8, 2006 until  his retirement.

On behalf of all of the members of Engine Co. 22 & Truck Co. 11, We would like thank Lieutenant Donahue for his commitment to our company and traditional fire service values which he personified on a daily basis.  We wish you all the best in your retirement.

High Angle Rescue Alarm - December 28, 2012 - Members of Platoon No. 1 were alerted for the High Angle Rescue Alarm at the Fort Totten Transfer Station.  Units arrived to find a trash truck that had tipped back while attempting to unload, leaving the driver trapped approximately 25 feet in the air.  Units used a front end loader to stabilize the trash truck and Truck 11 assisted Rescue Squad 2 & 3 with rescue of the driver.

MurphyNew Addition to Truck 11 Family - December 26, 2012 - Congratulations to Technician Mike Murphy and wife Sara on the birth of their daughter Riley. Our Newest Member to the Truck 11 family was born happy and healthy, both mom and baby are doing well!
Christmas FireSmall Christmas Day Fire - December 25, 2012 - Members of Various Platoon working on Christmas took in a first due basement fire in the  7100 block Georgia Ave NW. Engine Co. 22 and Truck 11 found smoke showing on arrival.   Fire was found to be in the dryer, with extension to the Laundry Room. E-22 extinguished and controlled within minutes of arrival.  T-11 laddered, vented, and searched, controlled utilities, as well as overhauled. Fire was contained to the room of origin.
Truck at School For Tech ExamNew Technician for Truck Co. 11 - December 17, 2012 - Congratulations to Firefighter Archie Jefferson of Platoon No. 3 on recent promotion to Firefighter/Technician!  Technician Jefferson will be filling the Tillerman vacancy on Platoon No. 3 created by the recent retirement of Technician John Bynum.  Archie successfully passed all written and practical testing and had the most points for seniority and time in company.  Congrats also to Firefighter Jason Tarbell of Platoon No. 2 for also passing all written and practical testing for this Technician Exam.
"Fire in the 4th Thursday" - August 23, 2012 - Just after 2000 hours, members of Platoons No. 2 responded with the 4th Battalion to the BOX ALARM at 5326 Kansas Avenue NW.  Units arrived to find FIRE showing in the rear of a middle of the row rowhome, two stories in the front and three in the rear.  Engine 22  completed Engine 24's water supply and backed up Engine 24.  Truck 11 Positioned on side "A", first due, and laddered the structure.   Truck 11 was assigned the "Vent Group" and completed horizontal and vertical ventilation.  The fire was quickly knocked and units picked up and returned.
Congratulations Technician John Bynum - The members of Truck 11 and Engine 22 would like to offer our congratulations to Technician John Bynum, Tillerman Truck Co. 11 Platoon No. 3.  John has retired After many years of dedicated service to the citizens of the Brightwood community and Washington, DC.  We would like to thank John for his dedication and service to Truck 11 and the DCFD.  With Johns, departure this creates a vacancy for the Tillerman position on Platoon No. 3.  A truck company technician is responsible for the maintenance of the unit and is the dedicated driver of that unit for his assigned shift.  The process for becoming the Technician involves an in-house examination (streets, running routes, major buildings, boxes, and short streets), after passing the in-house test candidates move on to the Training Academy where a second department examination is given (SOGs, Order Book, and operator knowledge).  A practical examination is then administered testing the candidates knowledge of their unit and ability to perform their job.  Lastly, time in the company and department are factored in.  Once a member is awarded the title of Technician the rank is maintained until promoted to an officer or the member retires.
First Due Fire - June 10, 2012 - Members of Platoon No. 4 were alerted for the BOX ALARM reported house at 1301 Juniper St NW.  Crews arrived to find find a deck well involved in the rear of a 2 1/2 story single family home with fire begining to extend into the first and second floors.  The fire was quickly brought under control by units operating on scene.  Members wish to thank the Rehab Unit for their assistance and support!

Mutual Aid from Montgomery County - May 21, 2012 - Engine 702 transferred to the quarters of Engine Co. 22.  Due to two working incidents in the City mutual aid was requested and multiple companies were transferred.  Engine Co. 22 transferred to the quarters of Engine Co. 6.  One of the working incidents being the school bus fire in the 3rd St tunnel.  Truck 11 responded with the Mass Casualty Task Force to the scene to provide assistance, shelter, and transport if needed; as all persons in the tunnel were ordered to evacuate and abandon their vehicles.  Units operating quickly extinguished the blaze allowing citizens to return to their vehicles.
Mutual Aid to Montgomery County - May 1, 2012 - Engine Co. 22 transferred to the quarters of Kensington Volunteer Fire Company 18 in Glenmont, Maryland.  Montgomery County requested assistance from D.C., Fairfax, and Prince George's County while many of their own units were tied up operating at two multiple alarm fires.  Engine Co. 22 members enjoyed their break from the busy life in the city, while on the transfer to the county.
Annual No. 2 Fishing Trip - May 1, 2012 - Members of Platoon No. 2 took part in their annual Fishing Trip.  The crew set out off the shore of Chesapeake Beach, MD aboard the Bay Hog II.   The days worth of fishing only brought in two fish. The crew is proud to have reeled in the Bay Hog II's largest catch to date in 2012 a 44" Rockfish. Check out our friends aboard the Bay Hog II.
Welcome to New Family Member - April 9, 2012 - Members of Engine 22 and Truck 11, other family, and friends gathered to celebrate the marriage of Firefighter Augustus Hill - Truck 11 Platoon No. 2.  Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Hill on this momentous occasion! 
Death Notification from the RFA - March 31, 2012 - It is with deep regret we notify our members of the death Jeremiah Francis (Frank) Fahey on April 3, 2012. Brother Fahey was appointed on July 1,1950 to Engine 22 and retired from Truck 11 on July 1, 1976.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, 10:30 AM at St. Peter's Church, 2900 Sandy Springs Rd., Olney MD.

Interment will follow at: Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave. Silver Spring MD 20906.
After the Fire - April 5, 2012 - Members of Engine 22 and Truck 11 Platoon No. 2, as well as Engine 24 took time out to reach out to the community in the area of the fire from early this morning.  Members went door to door checking with residents to ensure the presents of working smoke detectors.  In cases where a resident did not have a working detector one was installed.  A working smoke detector is a home owner's greatest defense against injury or death from fire.  Please remember to check your smoke detectors monthly and always change your batteries when you change your clocks.
"Fire in the 4th Thursday" - April 5, 2012 - Members of Platoons No. 1 & 2 responded with the 4th Battalion to the BOX ALARM at 1334 Locust Rd NW.  Engine 22 Arrived to find heavy smoke showing from the second floor of a detached single family home.  Rescue Squad 2 reported heavy fire showing in the rear from the second floor.  Members of Truck 11 and Rescue Squad 2 rescued 3 victims.  Engine 22 made an aggressive interior attack.  Truck 11 laddered the structure using all ground ladders and aerial.  Quick work from all members operating brought the blaze under control in less that 30 minutes.  Crews overhauled, insuring no fire extension, picked up and returned to service.  Shortly after returning to quarters Engine 22 and Truck 11 were dispatched with the 4th Battalion to 6601 3rd St NW for fire in the oven.  Upon arrival members found a small fire in the oven.  The assignment was held with 1 and 1.

Death Notification from the RFA - March 31, 2012 - It is with deep regret we notify our members of the death of Anthony A. "Tony" Christiani. Brother Christiani was appointed on January 15, 1961 to Truck 11 and retired as Sergeant from Truck 6 on December 31, 1988.

A Memorial Service on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM
with a Memorial Mass to follow at 9:45 AM. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 8300 Old Columbia Rd. Fulton, MD 20759.

Interment will follow at: Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd., Crownsville, MD.
Truck 11 Assists with Bringing New Life - March 12, 2012 - Members of Truck 11 were dispatched and responded for a "O.B. Patient - Baby already delivered".  Upon arrival Truck 11 found a new mother who had just given delivery of her new baby. The members acted swiftly and deployed the OB Kit.  Quickly suctioning and warming the baby.   Patient care was maintained to both a distraught mother and a healthy newborn baby girl.  Patient care was transferred to a Southeast Ambulance upon their arrival and both patients were transported.

Scott Firefighter Stair Climb - March 12, 2012 - Firefighter Troy Stocker of Truck 11 No. 2 participated in the Scott Firefighter Stair Climb in Seattle, Washington. The Scott Firefighter Stair climb is a timed race up the stairs at the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle in full fire gear and SCBA. There are 69 flights of stairs, 1311 steps, and 788ft of vertical elevation. Although it will be challenging, it pales in comparison to what blood cancer patients must go through. All proceeds benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  We are proud of Firefighter Stocker as this is his 5th year participating in the 69 flight stair climb raising a total of over $5,000 toward charity.  For more information about how you can help the LLS check out their website at http://www.lls.org/
Members March in Annual St. Pat's Parade - March 12, 2012 - Members of Engine 22 & Truck 11 participated in the annual D.C. St. Patrick's Day Parade.  Approximately a dozen members turned out to march with the Emerald Society of Washington Firefighters.  This was the Emerald Society's 33rd year marching in the city's St. Patty's Day Parade.  This year members of the DCFD were proud to be joined by over 60 Firefighters from the Buffalo, NY Fire Department.  In all it was a great day for the Parade and everyone who came out had a great time.
First Due Fire - March 10, 2012 - Members of Platoon No. 4 responded for the BOX ALARM at 7624 9th Street NW.  Upon arrival Engine Company 22 and Truck 11 found FIRE on the second floor in the rear of a semi-detached ordinary constructed residential dwelling.  Engine 22 extinguished the same while Truck 11 ventilated and checked for fire extension.  Crews also located a victim to the rear of the structure who was transported to the hospital with minor burns. 
"Fire in the 4th Thursday" - March 8, 2012 - Members of Platoon No. 2 responded for the BOX ALARM at 1401 Buchanan Street NW.  On scene a working fire was found on the second floor of the Royal Market.  Engine Co. 22 and Truck 11 both second due on the box encountered extreme difficulty with rear access to the structure.  Crews encountered a tight alleyway and a challenging building layout with many add-ons and structural hazards.  Crews operating on the scene quickly extinguished the fire.
St. Baldrick's Foundation - March 4, 2012 - Firefighter Dave Smith of Truck 11 No. 4 participated in a fundraiser for the St. Baldrick's Foundation.  This volunteer driven charity funds more in childhood cancer reserach than any organization except the U.S. Government.  For the fourth year Firefighter Smith has teamed up with other DCFD members to have their heads shaved - to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancner, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures.  The members of Engine 22 and Truck 11 are proud of Dave's efforts raising $8,692 personally, contributing to a total over $50,000 for team DCFD.  For more information on how you can help this awesome casue checkout http://www.stbaldricks.org/.
