Congratulations
Technician John Bynum -
The members of Truck 11 and Engine 22
would like to offer our congratulations
to Technician John Bynum, Tillerman
Truck Co. 11 Platoon No. 3. John
has retired After many years of
dedicated service to the citizens of the
Brightwood community and Washington, DC.
We would like to thank John for his
dedication and service to Truck 11 and
the DCFD. With Johns, departure
this creates a vacancy for the Tillerman
position on Platoon No. 3. A truck
company technician is responsible for
the maintenance of the unit and is the
dedicated driver of that unit for his
assigned shift. The process for
becoming the Technician involves an
in-house examination (streets, running
routes, major buildings, boxes, and
short streets), after passing the
in-house test candidates move on to the
Training Academy where a second
department examination is given (SOGs,
Order Book, and operator knowledge).
A practical examination is then
administered testing the candidates
knowledge of their unit and ability to
perform their job. Lastly, time in
the company and department are factored
in. Once a member is awarded the
title of Technician the rank is
maintained until promoted to an officer
or the member retires. |

- Members of Engine 22
and Truck 11 Platoon No. 2, as well as Engine 24

the area of the fire from early this morning.
Members went door to door checking with
residents to ensure the presents of working
smoke detectors. In cases where a resident
did not have a working detector one was
installed. A
working smoke detector is a home owner's
greatest defense against injury or death from
fire. Please remember to check your smoke

Firefighter Troy Stocker of Truck 11 No. 2 participated
in the Scott Firefighter Stair Climb in Seattle,
Washington. The Scott Firefighter Stair climb is a timed race up the
stairs at the Columbia Center in downtown Seattle in
full fire gear and SCBA. There are 69 flights of stairs,
1311 steps, and 788ft of vertical elevation. Although it
will be challenging, it pales in comparison to what
blood cancer patients must go through. All proceeds
benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

proud of Firefighter Stocker as this is his 5th year
participating in the 69 flight stair climb raising a
total of over $5,000 toward charity.
